Pathophysiology

Luminal obstruction
(viral infection -> inflammatory ulceration of mucosa -> enlarged lymphoid follicles or fecalith)
-> Secretion of mucus
-> Distends the organ
-> Venous engorgement & arterial compromise
-> Gangrene and perforation
